Equipped with nearly four decades of excellence in the field of geophysics, Dianna L. Shelander is a retired professional who most recently served as the principal geophysicist at SLB in Houston. Maintaining her leadership role from 1999 until her retirement in 2018, her confidence and commitment to delivering the best work have been exemplified by her longstanding tenure in the gas and oil exploration industry. Prior to accepting her most recent appointment, Ms. Shelander served as a geophysicist at Unocal Corporation from 1990 to 1999. She commenced her career in 1981 as a geophysicist at Amoco Production Co., where she remained until 1989.

Highly educated, Ms. Shelander sought a formal education before delving into her professional career. In 1976, she earned a Bachelor of Science in physical sciences from the Georgia Institute of Technology. While studying toward her undergraduate degree, she notably served as a springboard diver on the varsity swim team for three years. Thereafter, she completed a Master of Science in exploration geophysics at Stanford University in 1981. In light of her outstanding feats, the Georgia Institute of Technology also named a scholarship in her honor, titled the Dianna Shelander Scholarship.

As a testament to her success, Ms. Shelander was listed among the Inaugural Alumnae Honorees for the Georgia Tech Women’s Tribute (now known as Pathway of Progress: Celebrating Georgia Tech Women) in March 2024. She attributes her success to her ability to approach challenges with a clear vision and work to see each project through to completion. Although she has experienced a myriad of career achievements, Ms. Shelander is most proud to have discovered a location in Burma that could be drilled for methane gas. In addition, she worked with the Department of Energy on a significant project between 2010 and 2015, where they participated in the determination to estimate the quantity of gas hydrate.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Shelander aims to continue enjoying her retirement. She would also like to dedicate more help to her family and friends, forming a close, cohesive relationship.
