Drawing upon 45 years of professional experience, Lisa Michelle Woody has cultivated success as a sports official for the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Since 1979, she has thrived in the field of athletics, with her dedication to the field enabling her to overcome significant obstacles. As a woman in what was typically a male-dominated field, Ms. Woody persevered against stigma regarding women in the realm of sports and has since become a formidable force in her profession. Starting her journey as an official for volleyball, she later expanded her repertoire to include football, baseball and wrestling. She subsequently progressed to officiating high school competitions.

As part of her routine responsibilities, Ms. Woody ensures safe transportation for student-athletes as a school bus driver and officiates a variety of games that captivate her interest. Likewise, she serves as an area supervisor for the state of Kansas, where she has organized and led volleyball clinics aimed at training new officials. In this regard, Ms. Woody is a strong mentor in her field, providing guidance, advice and encouragement to aspiring sports officials. Deeply passionate about coaching and mentorship opportunities, her primary goal is to inspire individuals to pursue officiating as a profession, noting the shortage of officials in the industry.

In accounting for her success, Ms. Woody credits the tireless support of her family, as their encouragement has served as a perpetual source of motivation and inspiration both on and off the field. In addition, she attributes much of her success to her faith and spirituality, through which she finds strength. Notably, three of her children and her grandson have continued her legacy as sports officials, marking three generations of her family involved in the profession. Although she has achieved much, she cites her family’s shared dedication and passion for officiating as highlights of her career.

Outside of her primary vocation, Ms. Woody enjoys giving back to her community. She sponsors a child in Africa and has also lent her time to her local church as a kitchen manager and an audio equipment manager. To remain abreast of developments in her area of expertise, she maintains membership with the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Woody aims to continue serving as a mentor and trainer to fellow sports officials. She seeks to expand the pool of qualified officials to ensure the continued growth and success of the industry.
