Well-regarded in consulting, leadership training, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), Philip Alfonso Berry serves at the helm of Philip Berry Associates LLC. Through his consulting business, Mr. Berry specializes in professional areas such as executive coaching, organizational development and team transformation to create lasting changes for each of his clients. To wit, he is immensely passionate about his work and has been recognized on several occasions for his success.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Berry served in executive-level positions with a myriad of prestigious organizations. Prior to dedicating himself to his consulting firm on a full-time basis, he served as the chief human resources officer at the Clinton Foundation between 2015 and 2018, thereby introducing him to the field of nonprofit management. Likewise, he served with Colgate Palmolive between 1990 and 2008 in numerous roles, including as an associate director for organizational planning, the vice president of global workplace initiatives and a corporate officer. During his tenure with Colgate Palmolive, Mr. Berry worked in more than 60 countries, such as Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa and Latin America, leading human resources and playing a pivotal role in establishing the company’s DE&I programs. Furthermore, Mr. Berry worked for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, the Digital Equipment Corporation, Procter & Gamble and IBM between 1968 and 1990, leveraging his 50-plus years of professional experience.
In his civic endeavors, Mr. Berry maintains his passion for community involvement. Affiliated with the Asia Society Diversity and Leadership Development Council and the Association of ERGs and Diversity Councils, he also served as the vice chairperson of the board of trustees of the City University of New York and the acting chairperson of the board of trustees of the City University of New York Construction Fund. Moreover, Mr. Berry has served on the board of trustees of the Louis Armstrong House Museum since 2020, the advisory board of G2Experience for Global Growth since 2013, and has been a member of the senior advisory council of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources since 2017.
Demonstrating versatility in his profession, Mr. Berry has contributed several professional articles to publications, particularly within the realms of workplace topics such as managing cultural differences, effective leadership, personal branding and unconscious bias. He also authored his first book, “Being Better Than You Believe: 8 Steps to Ultimate Success,” in 2010.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Berry received the Outstanding Community Development Award from the State of New York. Looking toward the future, he aims to explore innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to help promote his brand, which he hopes will extend his professional impact on a global scale.
