Drawing upon more than five decades of professional excellence, Howard L. Nations established his eponymous law firm, The Nations Law Firm, in 1971, where he has since built a national trial practice by prosecuting mass tort cases focused on dangerous pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Also specializing in courtroom technology and civil, business, personal injury and multi-district litigation, he has likewise represented several thousand military veterans since the inception of his legal career. Formerly serving as a co-founder of the Insurance Corporation of America from 1972 to 1980 and as an attorney with Butler, Binion, Rice, Cook & Knapp from 1966 to 1971, Mr. Nations has lectured extensively across the globe, including in all 50 U.S. states, six Canadian provinces and 12 foreign countries.

Before starting his career, Mr. Nations served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960, specializing in military intelligence as a Russian linguist. He subsequently attended Florida State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1963. Later, he obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1966. Mr. Nations is licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas, the New York State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar and the Supreme Court of the United States, and he holds certifications in trial law, personal injury trial law and civil trial advocacy.

Notably, Mr. Nations has held executive-level roles with numerous law-aligned organizations, including past appointments as the president of the State Bar of Texas, the National Trial Lawyers Association, The Aletheia Institute, the Melvin M. Belli Society, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Plaintiff Trucking Lawyers of America, LLC. He also served on the executive committee of the American Association for Justice (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), having been a founder and co-chairman of the American Association for Justice’s National College of Advocacy.

As a testament to his success, Mr. Nations has been bestowed with a myriad of accolades. Recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer between 2004 and 2019, he was named to the Best Lawyers in America list in 2018 and received the Outstanding 50-Year Lawyer Award from the Texas Bar Foundation in 2017. Likewise, in 2012, he was inducted into the Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame, having further earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association for Justice in 2014. Among his many honors, however, Mr. Nations is especially proud of representing plaintiffs for whom he has recovered substantial funds, as well as representing military personnel to help them collect damages.
