Dr. Behrooz Kamgar-Parsi is well-regarded in his areas of expertise, having cultivated more than 40 years of professional excellence. For over three decades, he has contributed his knowledge to the Naval Research Laboratory, working as a research scientist in its Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence since 1989. Earlier in his career, he served as a patient researcher in sleep disorders for the National Institutes of Health between 1978 and 1981 and as a visiting scientist for the NIH’s Division of Computer Research and Technology between 1981 and 1984. For the following 10 years, he also served as a research scientist in the Computer Vision Laboratory at the University of Maryland and an assistant professor of computer science at George Mason University.

Adjacent to his primary responsibilities, Dr. Kamgar-Parsi has lent his breadth of knowledge to the Journal of Pattern Recognition Letters as an editor, as well as to several scholarly and scientific journals as an active contributor to articles. Since commencing his career, he has worked comprehensively with artificial intelligence and technological applications, including participating in the development of vision-based guidance systems for air vehicles to autonomously follow shorelines and roads without requiring the use of GPS systems. Additionally, Dr. Kamgar-Parsi helped develop capabilities for artificial neural networks to reject unfamiliar patterns rather than convoluting them with otherwise known classes of patterns.

Prior to commencing his career, Dr. Kamgar-Parsi studied in his home country of Iran, graduating from Tehran University with a Bachelor of Science in 1968. He subsequently relocated to the United States, matriculating at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and earning a Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1978. To remain abreast of developments in his fields, he is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and the SPIE Society, as well as the United States Chess Federation.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Kamgar-Parsi was bestowed with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World. Among his many vocational milestones, however, Dr. Kamgar-Parsi is especially proud of raising his family and witnessing the success of his three children: Liana, Kaveh and Pareesa.
