Focusing his attention on teaching English, writing, 19th-century romantic poetry and film studies, Dr. Ralph Haven Wolfe excelled as a professor at Bowling Green State University from 1967 to 1998. Currently, he maintains the title of distinguished professor emeritus. Possessing over 40 years of practiced expertise in the field of education, Dr. Wolfe previously served as an assistant professor at Indiana State University from 1962 to 1967 and at Monmouth College from 1961 to 1962.

Among the many highlights of his career, Dr. Wolfe is particularly proud to have earned recognition as a distinguished teaching professor, emphasizing that the title is rare in his industry. Prior to commencing his career, he served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, followed by studies at Bowling Green State University. To this end, Dr. Wolfe earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in English from his alma mater. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Philosophy from Indiana University. Impressively, he wrote his dissertation on William Wordsworth, a 19th-century English poet. In light of his interest in Wordsworth’s work, Dr. Wolfe taught at The Wordsworth Conference Foundation in England for two years.

Civically involved as well, Dr. Wolfe is a board member of the library in his hometown of North Baltimore, Ohio, and maintains an active affiliation with The American Legion, Kappa Delta Pi and The Golden Key International Honour Society. As a testament to his success, Dr. Wolfe has been honored on several occasions, having been the recipient of the Spirit of Wood County Award in 1990 and named Citizen of the Year in North Baltimore, Ohio, in 2015. In addition, he was celebrated for 50 years of service on the board of trustees of the North Baltimore Public Library in 2022. He remains a board member in the present day.

To wit, Dr. Wolfe attributes much of his success to his interest in and passion for education, as he has always desired to become an educator since the formative years of his life. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue enjoying his well-deserved retirement.
