Since 1998, Robert L. Giron has excelled as the owner, publisher and editor of Gival Press, LLC. Gival Press is acclaimed as an independent literary publishing house, having published dozens of fiction novels, non fiction essays, educational texts and books since its inception. Publishing over 100 books and e-books in both print and digital formats, Gival Press has afforded its writers opportunities to win national and international accolades. Most notably, the publishing house is well-regarded for its annual Oscar Wilde Award for outstanding work in LGBTQ+ literature. In addition, it offers awards for best novel, short story and poetry collection. It also offers an online literary journal, titled the Arlington Literary Journal (ArLiJo), which also publishes works in art, fiction and non-fiction books, photography and poetry.

Outside of his work as a writer and publisher, Mr. Giron has been recognized as an educator in higher education. First teaching as a lecturer in English at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, he then served as an English professor at such academic institutions as El Paso Community College, St. Mary’s University, Austin Community College and George Washington University. Thereafter, Mr. Giron served as a professor and the chairman of the English department at Montgomery College, where he remained for three decades until attaining emeritus status. Mr. Giron also served as an acting dean.

At a formative age, Mr. Giron was enthralled with the art of writing and the influence of literature, noting that Walt Whitman was a resounding force in his decision to pursue poetry writing. Recognized now as a member of the Authors Guild, the Academy of American Poets, and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in linguistics from The University of Texas at El Paso and a Master of Arts in teaching English as a second language from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He also completed coursework in communications and publications management and earned a certificate in literature from the University of Cambridge.

Distinguished for his literary prowess, Mr. Giron edited the book “Poetic Voices Without Borders,” which garnered the 2009 National Best Book Award for Fiction & Literature: Anthologies from USA Book News. He has also authored such books as “Metamorphosis of the Serpent God,” “Songs for the Spirit,” Wrestling with Wood,” Recuerdos (Memories)” and “Impressions Françaises (French Impressions).” Likewise, he was the founder and editor-in-chief of The Sligo Journal at Montgomery College and Chrysalis at El Paso Community College.

To attest to his success, Mr. Giron won the Faculty Outstanding Service Award from Montgomery College in 2002 and 2011 and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award from The University of Texas at Austin in 1997 and 2002.
