A noted diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Walter R. Schwartz accrued more than 35 years of excellence in his field prior to his retirement in 1994. An acclaimed obstetrician, gynecologist and educator, he served as an associate clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1976 to 1994, having previously been an assistant clinical professor from 1968 to 1976. Alongside his academic role, he was a staff member of Elmbrook Memorial Hospital between 1971 and 1994 and the Sinai Samaritan Hospital and West Allis Hospital between 1961 and 1994.

Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Schwartz also served as a courtesy staff member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lutheran Hospital of Milwaukee between 1961 and 1964 and again from 1990 and 1992, and formerly served the Lutheran Hospital as an attending staff member from 1967 to 1990 and associate staff member from 1964 to 1967. He was a clinical instructor in obstetrics and gynecology at the Marquette County General Hospital from 1961 to 1968. Alongside his primary career endeavors, Dr. Schwartz sat on the medical examining board of Wisconsin in the 1990s, was a visiting staff member at the Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital from 1981 to 1994, and was a consulting staff member at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital in West Bend, Wisconsin, between 1961 and 1990.

Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Schwartz obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1955 and went on to complete an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin, in 1956. From 1956 to 1958, he was a captain and physician in the United States Army Medical Corps, rising to the rank of aviation medical officer by 1958. He completed his medical training in 1961 as a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Milwaukee County Hospital.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Schwartz has been highlighted in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering at his local church.
