Laila El Gammal has boasted a pronounced career in the textile industry, supported by several decades of experience in both engineering and management. The managing director of Nobeltex and G.I.E.S, her responsibilities include selling products, working as an agent for European corporations, answering questions, email correspondence and performing quality assurance inspections. Subsequent to her graduation from graduate school in Egypt with a master’s degree in chemical engineering, Ms. El Gammal spent one year researching polyester yarns at the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry in Uzbekistan.
Since 1976, Ms. El Gammal has served G.I.E.S as managing director and established Nobeltex under the G.I.E.S company name in Cairo in 1990. Following this establishment, she founded IEI, an authorized fire protection equipment installer. As a testament to her success in her industries, she was recognized with the Award of Excellence in Business in 2007 and has been invited to attend the World Bank Conference as a female entrepreneur in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. She notes that the conference was looking for women to represent different fields and being among the only women in the textile industry at the time, she was chosen.
With her background in chemical engineering, Ms. El Gammal has maintained affiliation with the Association of Engineers in Egypt. She attributes her career success to her diligent work ethic and dedication to her work, as well as the support of her family. Notably, her sisters and two children help her run her companies, creating what is known as a family legacy in the industry. Looking towards the future, Ms. El Gammal hopes to be succeeded by her daughter Nyla, whom she believes will fill her shoes with motivation, precision and success.
