At the inception of his career, Mr. Sipos served as a mathematics teacher, as well as the department chairman of the Department of Mathematics at the Frontier Central School District in Hamburg, New York. He taught junior high mathematics for 33 years and served as the department chairman for 17 years, retiring in 1999. Additionally, he was the coordinator of the gifted and talented program at their junior high school. After his retirement from academia, Mr. Sipos dedicated his time to history and genealogy, becoming the Village of Cassadaga historian for 15 years, and additionally appointed as the Town of Stockton historian three years ago.
Alongside his primary responsibilities, Mr. Sipos has always enjoyed contributing to his local community. He served as the parade marshal for the Cassadaga Memorial Day Parade for six years, serves as the vice president for the Meals on Wheels program, and has been the historian for the Thule Lodge Swedish Organization, Vasa Order of America since 1999. Mr. Sipos is a member of the Association of Public Historians of New York State, Government Appointed Historians of Western New York and the Western New York Association of Historical Agencies. He is also a member of the Chautauqua County Genealogical Society and a member of the Cassadaga Library Association. He serves as an advisor to the Cassadaga Cemetery Association and is a past board member, as well as serving as the treasurer of the Cassadaga Valley Historical Society.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Sipos has accrued numerous accolades and recognitions. The recipient of the Community Service Award from the Jamestown chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2015, he was named Kiwanian of the Year by the Cassadaga Valley Kiwanis in 2005 and Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the PTA in 1995. Furthermore, he was highlighted in the first edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 1990 in light of his exceptional contributions to education.
