Dr. Robert G. Grossman is a distinguished medical educator and neurosurgeon who has amassed more than 55 years of experience in the field. At the inception of his career in 1963, he served from instructor to associate professor of neurological surgery at the University of Texas Southwest Medical School. Relocating to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1969, he was an associate and full professor of neurological surgery until 1973 before becoming a full professor and chairman of the Division of Neurological Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston until 1980.

For a large portion of his career, Dr. Grossman served the Baylor College of Medicine as a professor, chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery and associate dean of clinical affairs for 25 years between 1980 and 2005. His most recent appointment was at Houston Methodist Hospital, where he was the director of the Neurological Institute, chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery and professor of neurosurgery between 2005 and 2013. While embarking on his educational endeavors, he has also served in an academic practice on medicine, specializing in neurosurgery, in Houston since 1980.

A diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Grossman has also lent his considerable expertise to the National Institutes of Health. From 1972 to 1974, he was chairman of the Neurology B study section of the U.S. Public Health Service, and from 1993 to 1996, he was a member and chair of the Board of Science Counselors of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Alongside these activities, he was chairman of the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgery in 1987 and co-authored “Medical Neurobiology, Third Edition” with W. D. Willis in 1981.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Grossman was the recipient of the Cushing Medal from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons in 2007. He also earned the Albert and Ellen Grass Foundation Prize and Medal from the Society of Neurological Surgeons.
