With 60 years of experience to his credit, Joseph Benedict Scerno is a distinguished figure in the fields of management and human resources. Since 1997, he has served as the managing director of Joseph B. Scerno Associates in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, having also been president of SJM Holdings Limited since 2002 and an arbitrator for the New York State Panel of Arbitrators since 1966. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Scerno was a commissioner of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Washington, DC, from 1988 to 1997, vice president and president of human resources at Coastal Corporation from 1984 to 1988, and vice president of human resources at GBP Industries from 1979 to 1984.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Scerno was the director and vice president of employee-government-community relations at Intext, Inc., between 1974 and 1979, vice president of personnel at the Hospital for Joint Diseases and Medical Center from 1972 to 1974, and vice president of industrial relations at the Occidental Petroleum Corporation from 1966 to 1972. Likewise, he served as assistant vice president of industrial relations at the Technical Material Corporation, having commenced his career in 1959 as general manager and vice president at Express Haulage Corporation.

Mr. Scerno attributes his success to his parents, as they served as good examples that propelled Mr. Scerno throughout the rest of his career. He also credits his mentors, as well as his hard-working work ethic, and ability to bring people together and develop creative solutions to complex problems. Demonstrating versatility in his profession, he authored “Managing from the 21st Century and Beyond: Human Centered Facilitative Management” in 1997. Likewise, he is a former veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea from 1954 to 1957.

A certified senior practitioner in human resources management from the HR Certification Institute in Washington, DC, since 1975, Mr. Scerno holds a bachelor’s degree in personnel management from New York University and master’s degree in counseling from Marywood University. As a testament to his success, he has been listed in approximately 25 Who’s Who publications.
