Supported by five decades of practiced excellence in higher education and administration, Dr. S. Kay Rockwell is a retired professor and evaluation specialist at the University of Nebraska. Serving as an educator at the university from 1990 until her retirement in 2003, she was also a distinguished evaluation specialist. At the inception of her tenure at the university in 1979, she served as an evaluation technologist until 1984 before becoming a member of the advisory board in the Department of Adult Education and Social Foundation from 1984 to 1986 and assistant professor in cooperative extension from 1984 to 1990. Earlier in her career, she was an instructor and acting assistant director at the Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing. Dr. Rockwell has further excelled in her roles within workshops and symposiums in the field, having also been a consultant and trainer
to extension specialists and agents on program evaluation. She lent her expertise to the health care profession as well, notably contributing her time to educating and guiding prospective nurses and educators. A volunteer with USAID since 2002, she has also remained active in civic outreach programs, having aided those less fortunate than herself and provided indigent civilians with resources to lead healthier lives. Impressively, she has traveled to more than 40 countries throughout her career, such as Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Israel.

A former research-in-brief editor of the Journal of Extension from 1987 to 1990, Dr. Rockwell has contributed her expertise to professional journals in her industry. As a testament to her longevity and success, she was recognized with the Excellence in Training Award in 1996. Likewise, she was featured in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in American Education in 1993 and 71st edition of Who’s Who in America in 2018.

Drawing upon an exceptional education, Dr. Rockwell is a first-generation university graduate. Graduating from Lincoln General Hospital with certifications in nursing in 1960, she then attended the University of Nebraska, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1962, Master of Arts in adult and continuing education in 1975, and Doctor of Philosophy in community and human resources in 1984.
