Initially indifferent to the field of chemistry, Dr. Peter Miles Anson Sherwood decided to give the subject another try and is now an accomplished educator in his field. In 1967, he received a Bachelor of Science from The University of St. Andrews in Scotland. In 1970, he received a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge in England, where he also began his career as a fellow of Downing College, Cambridge. From 1972 to 1985 he served as a lecturer and then senior lecturer at Newcastle University in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

In 1985, Dr. Sherwood immigrated to the United States and became an associate professor of chemistry at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. He briefly served as a program officer of the National Science Foundation Division of Chemistry before becoming a full professor at Kansas State University from 1991 to 1997. During this time, Dr. Sherwood also earned a Doctor of Science from the University of Cambridge. In 1997, he was promoted to the role of university distinguished professor and head of chemistry at Kansas State University, a title he held until 2004. He then moved on to Oklahoma State University, where he served as dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and as a regents professor of physics from 2004 to 2012. Today, he holds the titles of emeritus regents professor of physics and emeritus dean.

As a respected professional, Dr. Sherwood has provided consulting services for DuPont and W.R. Grace & Co. In his spare time in retirement, Dr. Sherwood enjoys church architecture, hill walking, and cartography.
