The daughter of Stanley Rathbun Saunders and Esther Casteel Saunders, Anne Saunders Kirkpatrick commenced her career as a student at Wellesley College, where she completed undergraduate coursework from 1956 to 1957. Attending Laval University in Quebec City, Canada, soon thereafter, she completed coursework and transferred to the University of Arizona, where she also attended classes until 1959. Ms. Kirkpatrick subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from the University of Michigan in 1961.
After graduating from college, Ms. Kirkpatrick moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she went to an employment agency to find a job. Discovering that she had a natural affinity for computers, she worked for IBM as a systems engineer from 1962 to 1964. After taking time off from work, she subsequently returned to the workforce in 1981, when she began serving as a senior analyst with Commonwealth Edison Company. She subsequently retired from the industry in 1997.
Alongside her primary endeavors, Ms. Kirkpatrick was formerly the president of the Hinsdale Women’s Republican Club of Illinois from 1978 to 1981. Likewise, she was a treasurer of Taproot Representatives in DuPage County, Illinois, from 1977 to 1980. Furthermore, she was on the board of directors of the Chicago Wellesley Club from 1972 to 1973.
With a foundation of more than 30 years of professional experience, Ms. Kirkpatrick looks toward the future and intends to continue enjoying her retirement while spending time with her family.
