Raymond Stephen Roginski, MD, PhD, was inspired to become a doctor because of his passion for science, and desire to understand and treat illness. He is the first in his family to earn MD and PhD degrees. After graduating first in his class from St. Peter’s Prep as Valedictorian in 1973, Dr. Roginski matriculated at Yale University where earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry in 1977, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Summa cum Laude. Subsequently, he attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, where he became interested in how anesthesia affects the brain, graduating with a Master of Science and Doctor of Medicine in 1981 and 1985, respectively. Concurrently, as a scholar in the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program, he also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in the Cell Biology Department from the Sue Golding Graduate Division of Yeshiva University in 1985. His PhD thesis was published in 1985. He completed his internship and residency at the AECOM Montefiore program from 1985 to 1989.

Since 2009, Dr. Roginski has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care in the Associated Faculty of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Staff Anesthesiologist at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Previously, he held several positions at UMDNJ/Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, including Associate Professor and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia. Immediately following his residency, from 1989-1991, he held a half-time Clinical Assistant Professorship at UMDNJ-Newark while conducting research as an Instructor and Research Associate in the Department of Neuroscience at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

A contributor of dozens of articles and abstracts to peer-reviewed journals, including Cell, Molecular and Cellular Biology, the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology, Anesthesia Clinics of North America, NeuroReport and Gene, Dr. Roginski has also presented his research projects, primarily concerning the human GCOM1 gene (which he discovered in 1998), many times at the annual meetings of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and SNACC, at which he has served as a Moderator/Facilitator for many scientific sessions. He also spoke before the Society for Neuroscience during their annual meetings in 1990 and 2006, and the Association of University Anesthesiologists at several of their annual meetings. Additionally, he has been listed in the 24th edition of Who’s Who in the East and 63rd edition of Who’s Who in America. Married to Sharon Claire Krieger since 1988, Dr. Roginski is the proud father of three children. He considers his marriage and family to be among the highlights of his career. Also of note, he is an avid golfer and has been a member of the USGA since 1987. He served on the Volunteer Committee as a Marshal for the 2018 United States Open Golf Championship at Shinnecock Hills, Southampton, New York.
