With approximately 55 years of professional experience in the fields of science and academia, W. R. Klemm, Ph.D., has been serving as a K-12 science consultant since 2000, a professor in the Department of Integrative Biosciences at Texas A&M University since 1980, and a neuroscience researcher at Texas A&M University since 1966. He was also a professor of biology at Texas A&M University between 1966 and 1980, and an associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Iowa State University from 1963 to 1966.
In preparation for his esteemed and applauded career, Dr. Klemm earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1958, as well as a Ph.D. at the University of Notre Dame in 1963. In an effort to remain alert of changes within the scientific and education industries, Dr. Klemm maintains affiliations with several organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Society for Neuroscience, and NSTA. Additionally, he was the former president of the Texas A&M Chapter of Sigma Xi from 1990 to 1991.
Dr. Klemm has studied basic and applied neuroscience, publishing over 250 peer-reviewed reports and 20 books. He has been on the Editorial Boards of 13 scholarly journals. He won a creativity award from Merck & Company, and shared first prize in an international contest for “The best new idea is distance education.” He has two Meritorious Service Medals from the U.S. Air Force. In recognition of his exceptional achievements, Dr. Klemm has been honored with several accolades throughout the course of his career. In 2011, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Auburn University. In addition, he was presented with the Distinguished Scientist Award from Sigma X: the Science Research Society.
Dr. Klemm has two children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to jazz music, writing, and scuba diving.
