Jonathan Chapman Rose is a distinguished attorney — now retired — who dedicated nearly a half-century of his life to the justice system. He concluded his career as a partner of Jones Day, a global law firm ranked among the world’s most integrated law firms and best in client service. He worked in this capacity on two occasions during his tenure, first from 1977 to 1981 and then again from 1984 to 2015. Along the way to achieving his esteemed status, Mr. Rose held prominent roles in the legal field that allowed him to develop the skills that made him one of the top lawyers in the country. Notably, he was secretary of the Standing Rules Committee. He served as the Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Policy for the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division during President Ronald Reagan’s administration. Mr. Rose also served as general counsel for the Council on International Economic Policy from 1973 to 1974 and special assistant to the U.S. President from 1971 to 1973. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1963. After graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard University in 1967, Mr. Rose clerked for Richard Ammi Cutter in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Mr. Rose is admitted to practice in the states of Ohio and Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, the United States circuit courts, and the Supreme Court of the United States. When asked of his professional drive, Mr. Rose notes that he has been successful because of his passion, commitment and tenacity. He became involved in his profession because his father was a prominent attorney in the Cleveland region and he wanted to follow in his footsteps. In doing so, Mr. Rose has created his own legacy.
A lifelong learner committed to his professional development, Mr. Rose remained at the top of his field through his affiliations with prominent industry organizations. His expertise in the legal field was further fostered through memberships with the ABA, The District of Columbia Bar, Massachusetts Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, and The American Law Institute Clubs.
In recognition of his lifetime achievements, Mr. Rose is featured in several editions of various Marquis Who’s Who publications, such as Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
