Kenneth Grant Winans is the president, founder and chief investment officer of Winans Investments, an advisory firm that manages equity and fixed-income investments, and provides its clients with responsive management intent on lowering risk and producing steady returns. Established in 1992, Mr. Winans sought to distinguish his practice from other firms. Winans Investments utilizes an extensive in-house historical economic database to examine the long-term historical performance of a company’s stock by integrating market and investment analysis to determine when to invest and what to invest in.
An investment pioneer, Mr. Winans has conducted landmark research and designed creative investment strategies, including the development of five investment indexes and a technical trend indicator, such as: Winans Legacy Stock Index (Symbol: WILSI), Winans Preferred Stock Index® (Symbol: WIPSI®), Winans Real Estate Index® (Symbol: WIREI®), Winans/GFD International Real Estate Index (Symbol: WITIRE), and Winans Trend Indicator (Symbol: WTI). Mr. Winans’ interest in his profession was sparked at the age of 16 after winning his high school economic class’ mock investing contest. While working at a summer job, where he was tasked with cleaning construction sites for his father’s construction company, Mr. Winans calculated that he could earn more money by investing in stocks. Thus, he walked into Dean Witter Reynolds, a former stock brokerage and securities firm in New York, and opened an investment account. Since then, Mr. Winans has built a successful career by following his instincts, studying investment history, and knowing how to apply that data to today’s financial climate.
Mr. Winans received his formal education through the University of San Diego and the University of San Francisco, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business economics and a master’s degree in finance, respectively. He acquired additional training as a research intern at EF Hutton. Furthermore, he is a registered investment adviser, chartered financial analyst and chartered market technician. Before founding Winans Investments, he worked as an investment adviser for Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. Moreover, from 1996 to 2001, Mr. Winans served as an adjunct faculty member at Saint Mary’s College of California’s School of Economics and Business Administration.
An award-winning author, Mr. Winans’ literary works include “Investment Atlas II: Using History as a Financial Tool,” “Preferred Stocks: The Art of Profitable Income Investing,” “Investment Atlas: Financial Maps to Investment Success,” and “Preferred: Wall Street’s Best Kept Income Secret.” In 2016, he earned the Beverly Hills International Book Award in U.S. History. The following year, he received the Independent Publisher (IPPY) Award. Mr. Winans is a regular guest on TV and radio shows nationwide, and his investment research has been published by leading websites, magazines and newspapers. He also writes a column for Forbes magazine. Marquis Who’s Who has listed Mr. Winans in Who’s Who in Corporate America and Who’s Who in the West.
