Prior to retiring in 2015, Dr. Ordie H. King Jr. enjoyed a career in health care and academia that spanned more than five decades. He undertook a residency in oral pathology for the U.S. Public Health Service through the University of Tennessee in 1962 and subsequently became an assistant professor of pathology at Northwestern University. Since then, he has taught future oral pathologists through professorships at St. Louis University, Washington University in St. Louis, and West Virginia University. His last assignment before retiring was as chairman of the Department of Diagnostic Specialties School of Dental Medicine at Southern Illinois University.

An active member of his field, Dr. King has maintained numerous affiliations in an effort to stay abreast of changes in the health care industry. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Oral Pathology, and a member of the American Cancer Society and American Society of Cytopathology. Moreover, he has been inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Phi Rho Sigma, Kappa Alpha Order and Delta Sigma Delta. Notably, Dr. King has contributed professional articles to various publications throughout the course of his illustrious career.

Dr. King embarked on his professional journey after obtaining a Bachelor of Science  from Memphis State University. He went on to receive a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee in 1959, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in 1965. A diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Dr. King has been recognized for his hard work and many achievements in the field. In 1973, he received the Outstanding Teacher Award from West Virginia University. Notably, Dr. King has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
