Since 1996, Mary A. Meyer has served as a teacher specializing in science education at the Jordan School District in Utah. Throughout her career spanning more than three decades, she has pioneered a hands-on approach to learning, particularly in the area of general chemistry, and is celebrated for her dedication to enhancing her students’ understanding of scientific topics.

As a science teacher, Ms. Meyer conducts seven 90-minute classes, each with over 30 students, as well as two laboratory sessions per week for each class. In addition to these responsibilities, she has served as a teacher-mentor and technology coach for emerging professionals in the school district and has led the after-school science club.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Meyer was the school-to-careers coordinator at Natrona County School District #1 in Casper, Wyoming, from 1995 to 1996, where she fostered relationships between academic learning and career opportunities for students. She commenced her career in North Dakota, where she taught seventh through 12th grade students for two years in subjects such as biology, marine biology, environmental science, physics and Advanced Placement chemistry. Concurrently, Ms. Meyer is recognized as a valued member of the National Science Teaching Association, the Utah Science Teaching Association and the Jordan Education Association.

Highly educated, Ms. Meyer holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and education from the University of Wyoming, which she completed in 1987. After spending years in her profession, she returned to higher education at The University of Utah, earning a Master of Science in chemistry and education in 2005. She also holds endorsements in nearly all areas of science education, as well as in technology and teacher coaching.

As a testament to her success, Ms. Meyer was named Teacher of the Month and nominated for Teacher of the Year at the Jordan School District. Outside of her professional commitments, she is an accomplished artist, having delved into various forms of artwork and glasswork. Looking ahead, Ms. Meyer aims to ease into a well-deserved retirement from education and develop her artwork into a profitable business venture.
