Since 2019, Dr. Doreen Fukushima has thrived at the helm of Ho’ola Pono, LLC in Pearl City, Hawaii, where she is recognized as a mental health provider for adult patients with mental health conditions and substance use disorders. Particularly proud of establishing her own medical practice amid the challenges associated with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Fukushima is well-regarded for her expertise and advocacy of mental health awareness to reduce the stigma associated with mental health conditions.
Soon, Ho’ola Pono, LLC is poised to expand to include adolescents in its client base following a new FDA-approved treatment for depression in youth aged 15 to 17, called Neurostar® Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy. Remarkably, TMS therapy is an emerging non-invasive, outpatient therapy treatment that uses short pulses of magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in one of the areas of the brain thought to control mood. In addition, TMS therapy may be beneficial to individuals who have had inadequate responses to prior antidepressant medications.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Fukushima was a locum tenens psychiatrist working in numerous U.S. states. She also served as a qualified medical evaluator for the California Division of Workers’ Compensation Medical Unit, where she assessed complex psychiatric cases in the workers’ compensation system. To prepare for her pronounced career, Dr. Fukushima earned a Doctor of Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii, followed by a residency in psychiatry, which she completed at the University of Hawaii in 2010. Leveraging 15 years of professional excellence, Dr. Fukushima was recently named a Top Psychiatrist in Hawaii in 2024.
To remain abreast of developments in her areas of expertise, Dr. Fukushima has maintained an active affiliation with numerous organizations, such as the Clinical TMS Society and the American Psychiatric Association. Looking toward the future, Dr. Fukushima aims to expand the presence of Ho’ola Pono, LLC to help more individuals with mental health disorders while concurrently working actively to eradicate the negative stigma associated with conditions such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use disorders and schizophrenia.
