Health Care

Interested in medicine from a formative age and influenced by her familial heritage in health care, Barbara A. Benson sought to help others through the practice of medicine. Drawing upon more than 50 years of professional experience, she currently serves as a certified nuclear medicine technologist (CNMT) and a registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) at Coastal Cardiology. Assuming her role in 2001, she has concurrently served Coastal Cardiology as a technical director since 2007. Likewise, Ms. Benson has lent her wealth of knowledge to Twin Cities Community Hospital since 1986 in similar capacities as a CNMT and an RDMS. Her expertise in the field is a testament to her dedication to serving others, particularly patients whose lives have been positively changed due to her steadfast commitment to medicine.

Notably, Ms. Benson earned a certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in 1974 and became a CNMT in 1975. One decade later, she also became an RDMS. Drawing upon an associate degree from Brandywine Junior College (now known as Weidner College), which she obtained in 1968, Ms. Benson has leveraged her degree and certificates to make a resounding impact on her industry. To wit, she is a former president of the West Tennessee Organization of Nuclear Medicine Technologists, a role she held in 1979 and for which she was honored with recognition for her outstanding service the same year. Impressively, Ms. Benson also received the Employee of the Year Award from Twin Cities Community Hospital in 2000.

To remain abreast of developments in her field, Ms. Benson is a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the American Heart Association. She also served on the clinical board of the American Cancer Society, among many other boards and organizations. Looking toward the future, Ms. Benson aims to enter a well-deserved retirement. However, she also intends to dedicate her spare time to volunteering at various homeless shelters in her region, spend more time with her family and travel extensively.
