Bolstered by over four decades of professional experience, Richard Oveila Poirier has excelled in the field of finance and the music and entertainment industry. Joining Universal Music Group in 2001, he first served as a senior royalty manager in Universal City, California, until 2006. From 2006 to 2010, he subsequently served as director royalty operations. Since 2010, Mr. Poirier has served as senior director royalty audits in Woodland Hills, California. For his success with Universal Music Group, he received an award for 20 years of dedicated service in 2021.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Poirier was the president of the eponymous Richard Poirier & Associates, a business and talent management firm in Los Angeles, from 1986 to 2001. He also worked as the director of royalties for Warner/Elektra/Atlantic International Records and Warner Home Video in Burbank, California, from 1983 to 1986 and as an artist royalty supervisor for Capitol Records in Hollywood, California, from 1981 to 1983. He commenced his career in 1981 as an accountant and assistant office manager for the law firm William R. Dickerson & Associates in Los Angeles.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Poirier received a diploma in English law and international comparative law, graduating with highest honors from City of London College in 1969. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in accounting and journalism, with a minor in philosophy, from Boston University, graduating summa cum laude in 1976. Thereafter, he underwent coursework in entertainment, music accounting, law and writing at UCLA Extension between 1981 and 1986. Mr. Poirier is recognized as a consultant in his field and has been a featured guest speaker at multiple events, including a featured presenter at university philosophy conferences at the University of Notre Dame, De Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture, the Saint Meinrad School of Theology and London Metropolitan University in London, England.
Lending his expertise to the written word, Mr. Poirier contributed to “All You Need to Know About the Music Business” by Donald S. Passman in 2009 and 2023. He was also a featured interviewee in the article “Facing the Music… with Joy: Meet Richard Poirier” in Studio City South Magazine in 2021 and wrote the cover interview feature “Clive Davis: The Man with the Platinum Ear” in CSQ C-Suite Quarterly, The Executive & Lifestyle Magazine in 2013. Having authored dozens of published commentaries in the Los Angeles Daily News, Orange County Register, Sacramento Bee, California Political Review and other media outlets, Mr. Poirier also authored the book “In Defense of Individuality,” which is scheduled to be published in 2024.
For his success. Mr. Poirier has received numerous accolades. Named Studio City Local Businessperson of the Year in 2022 and 2023, he was also the recipient of the Above & Beyond Award for exceptional service as the third vice president of Southern California Republican Women and Men in 2005 and the Film and TV Actors Symposium Award in 1990.
