Recognized as an expert in civil service and community building, Young Jun Sung has excelled as a city council member for the city of Carrollton, Texas, since 2017. Notably, he is the first Asian American to be elected to such a position, as well as the first Korean American to hold this seat in Northern Texas. Mr. Sung greatly values his positive role in his community and often allocates his time to being a strong advocate of underserved Asian communities throughout his region.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Sung immigrated to the United States following a long tenure as a farmer in his homeland of South Korea. After relocating to America, he attended LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, and received a Master of Business Administration. Desiring to advance his professional ventures, he also became a licensed mediator and licensed real estate broker. Additionally, Mr. Sung is a licensed master Korean interpreter.
Mr. Sung attributes a great deal of his success to having a compassionate heart and his persevering attitude in helping others. He notes that his desire to serve others and aid in their development has stemmed from the influence of his parents, who helped others in any way they could while living in South Korea. Among his myriad of career highlights, Mr. Sung is especially gratified by his role in serving as the bridge between the mainstream community and the Asian community in Texas. He has been an instrumental figure in advocating for cultural understanding and education.
Married to his wife Susan for many years, Mr. Sung is the proud father of two children, Joshua and Jessica. He lives by the phrase, “Working together is the beginning. Keeping it together is progress. Working together is success. We all need to work together to create that success.”
