Drawing upon nearly 30 years of expertise in finance, insurance and accountancy, Michael T. Scott, Esq., CPA, has excelled as an attorney at law with Allison & Mosby-Scott since 2017. Earlier in his career, he served in a myriad of positions with Archers Daniels Midland Company (ADM) beginning in 2003. From 2003 to 2008, he was the manager of international insurance and, from 2008 to 2010, he served as global manager of insurance and risk management. For the following four years, Mr. Scott was ADM’s director of insurance operations. Prior to departing from ADM in 2017, he thrived as the vice president of insurance and risk management, president and general counsel. He commenced his career with State Farm Insurance, for whom he served as a law clerk, assistant counsel and counsel between 1993 and 2003.

To prepare for his career, Mr. Scott pursued a formal education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, receiving a Bachelor of Science in accountancy in 1992. Following this achievement, he attended the School of Law at Southern Illinois University and graduated cum laude with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1995. He is a certified public accountant and maintains active affiliation with the American Bar Association. Likewise, he has sat on the board of directors of the Captive Insurance Companies Association and is a former newsletter editor for the corporate law section of the Illinois State Bar Association.

Throughout his tenure with ADM, Mr. Scott is especially proud of working on crop insurance and acquiring the managed digital agency for the company. When he acquired the crop insurance sector, it grossed $12 million in written premiums. However, he was able to grow it exponentially to $550 million in gross premiums by the time the company sold it. Through this remarkable accomplishment, Mr. Scott was afforded opportunities to flourish in his career, having held several relationships with clients that he still maintains to the present day. Mr. Scott attributes much of his success to the encouragement and support of his mentors at ADM, such as Mike Lusk, Peter Joy and John Lauer.

As a testament to his success, Mr. Scott received the Austin Fleming Award for Outstanding Newsletter Editor from the Illinois State Bar Association. Looking toward the future, he intends to witness the continued growth of Allison & Mosby-Scott and eventually would like to expound upon their commercial division.
