Architecture

Daniel Alan Day has been interested in architecture since his formative years. Upon taking an aptitude test and discovering his talent for detailed work, he was advised to seek the advice of Calvin Hamilton, who was the city planner at that time. Drawing upon Calvin Hamilton’s tutelage, Mr. Day graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in landscape architecture in 1963. While working for a variety of architectural firms, such as Clark & Rapuano and George Patton & Associates, he was acquainted with James Browning, who soon became his business partner. Together, Mr. Day and Mr. Browning established Browning Day in 1967, a premier planning, landscape and architecture firm in Indianapolis, Indiana.

As co-founder since 1967, Mr. Day has been responsible for several prestigious planning and architectural projects, including in the establishment of the Monument Circle and Market Street projects. Additionally, he was involved in the lowering of the downtown segment of the Central Canal in Indianapolis and the headquarters of Lilly Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Day is licensed to practice architecture in the state of Indiana, as well as several other states across the nation.

Civically involved as well, Mr. Day previously sat on the board of the Indianapolis International Violin Competition and was involved with the opera board. To attest to his resounding success in his philanthropic endeavors and professional ventures, he received the Council of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award in 1975. He attributes his success to his drive to complete great work in his field and having a diligent work ethic.

Born in Kokomo, Indiana, Mr. Day currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has been married to Ronald Blakely since 2017. Looking forward, Mr. Day intends to enjoy his well-deserved retirement.
