Initially interested in becoming an electrical engineer, Mr. Neumann became enthralled with mathematics and decided to emphasize his studies in the subject. Alongside his primary vocation, he has dedicated his time to several civic involvements, particularly Michigan Education Special Services, where he has been served as a vice president since 2005, trustee from 1975 to 1993 and again since 2002, and president from 1976 to 1993. He cites his contributions to the association as a career highlight and notes that their programs were exceptional. Likewise, he has maintained membership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Vision Services Plan Board of Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
Mr. Neumann advises future professionals to continue expanding their knowledge, as learning is infinite. He says that everyone must remain abreast of new approaches within the industry and be open to change, as well as incorporate humor into lectures.
To keep aware of industry developments, Mr. Neumann has maintained affiliation with the National Education Association, where he was a delegate and member of the advisory committee. Likewise, he is a past president and vice president of the Oakland Community College Faculty Association, past vice president of two year colleges of the Michigan Association for Higher Education, and past board of directors member of the Michigan Education Association. Furthermore, he was president of MESSA in 1976.
Born on January 30, 1943, Mr. Neumann has been married to his wife Cheryl Elaine Girard since 1965, with whom he shares two children, Matthew and Kristen. He also has two granddaughters, Vanessa and Brittany. In his spare time, he enjoys collecting antique books, playing racquetball and cross country skiing.
