Prior to his current roles, Dr. Segurola served Palmetto General Hospital as chief and chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery beginning in 2006, holding the esteemed position for 13 years. Likewise, he was a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon at the South Florida Heart & Lung Institute between 2004 and 2019.
In five years’ time, Dr. Segurola plans to reinvent and improve the Jackson Memorial Health System, and he desires to bring to the forefront of the new age of cardiothoracic surgery. Noting that the new age is represented by the integration between cardiothoracic surgeons and interventional cardiologists, he says that there has been more emphasis on minimally invasive surgery now than ever before.
The recipient of numerous accolades and recognitions, Dr. Segurola maintains membership with the Society of Thoracic Surgery and the Heart Rhythm Society. Outside of his professional obligations, he is proud of his efforts in rescuing homeless animals, particularly dogs. Having rescued a dog recently, he is involved with an adoption organization titled Underdogs, which specializes in disabled animals who have endured the tribulations of war.
