Fitzpatrick, Harold 4228598_412571 Newsletter REVISEDHarold F. Fitzpatrick was inspired to delve into law by his father, who was also a lawyer. The managing partner of Fitzpatrick & Merritt in Bayonne, NJ, since 1978, Mr. Fitzpatrick commenced his career in 1970 as a securities analyst for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, a position he held for one year. From there, he served in the same role for Brown Brothers and Harriman & Co. in New York in 1971 before becoming a staff assistant to the U.S. Senate in Washington in 1972.

After obtaining a law degree in 1974, Mr. Fitzpatrick served as a law clerk to the associate justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey between 1974 and 1975. From there, he was an associate at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York for three years between 1975 and 1978 before starting his present role. Alongside his primary responsibilities, Mr. Fitzpatrick has been serving as general counsel to the Color Pigments Manufacturers Association in Alexandria, VA, since 1978, to the New Jersey Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities since 1979 and to the Housing Authority for the city of Hoboken, NJ, since 2015.

When his career took off in 1979, Mr. Fitzpatrick was notable for being recognized by the “Red Book,” a prestigious law book dedicated to bond lawyers. Since that time, he has been pronounced in the field of law for his dedication and expertise in the field. Highlighted in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the World, among other publications, he is a past president and officer of the Hudson County Bar Association and has maintained affiliation with the American Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association and the Harvard Club of Boston.

Married to his wife Joanne since 1973, Mr. Fitzpatrick is the proud father of four children, Elizabeth, Kevin, Matthew and Christopher. Elizabeth holds an EdD degree in early childhood education and works for the Massachusetts School System. Kevin and Matthew are also lawyers, and they work in Mr. Fitzpatrick’s practice. Likewise, his son Christopher is attending Boston College for a Master of Business Administration degree.
