Dr. Ikar J. Kalogjera is a pronounced psychiatrist and former clinical professor of psychiatry located in the town of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Hosting his own private practice in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry since 1981, he also served the Medical College of Wisconsin as a professor from 1979 to 2020. An honorary staff member of Aurora Psychiatric Hospital since 1999, he has also served as the founder and leader of the Milwaukee Group for the Advancement of Self-Psychology for nearly 30 years.
A founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Kalogjera pursued formal education in his native Croatia at the University of Zagreb, where he earned an MD in 1970. Since that time, he has interned at the prominent university and, upon relocating to the United States in 1971, he completed a residency in psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati. He has been board certified in psychiatry, and child psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., and board certified in Addiction Medicine.
Boasting decades of experience, Dr. Kalogjera contributed a chapter to the book “Disordered Couple” in 1998, authored “Hospital and Community Psychiatry” in 1989 and co-authored various works in the American Journal of Psychotherapy in 1988. As such, in an effort to remain abreast of developments in his field, he has maintained affiliation with such organizations as the American Psychiatric Association, Wisconsin Psychoanalytic Institute, the American Society of Addiction Medicine; the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association; the American Medical Association; the Wisconsin Medical Society; and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
Honored with myriad recognitions throughout the course of his career, Dr. Kalogjera is notable for earning the Irma Bland Award from the American Psychiatric Association, many Compassionate Doctor Awards and many On-Time Doctor Awards, and three Top 1% Doctor Awards. He is also the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into Who’s Who in the World.
Married to Araceli Colina Cabaron since 1976, Dr. Kalogjera is the proud father of one daughter and a grandfather to two granddaughters. In his spare time, he enjoys contributing to his local Croatian community, movies, theater and travel.
