Miller, Arthur 4131770_2537508 Newsletter REVISEDArthur Raphael Miller is a dedicated educator and law professional, who has excelled in his myriad roles for more than 60 years. A university professor at the New York University School of Law since 2007, he also served the university on their board of overseers at the Rand Institute on Civil Justice between 1998 and 2002. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Miller was a faculty member at Harvard Law School, where he first served as a visiting professor from 1971 to 1972, full professor from 1972 to 1986 and Bruce Bromley Professor of Law from 1986 to 2007.

Prior to these esteemed appointments, Mr. Miller was a professor at the University of Michigan Law School for seven years and associate professor at the University of Minnesota Law School for three years. Formerly serving the Columbia Law School as a lecturer and associate director of Project International Procedure between 1961 and 1962, he commenced his career in 1958 as an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York.

Impressively, Mr. Miller has contributed to “Federal Practice and Procedure: Civil Procedure Cases and Materials” since 1969, has hosted numerous syndicated television shows, and was featured on “Good Morning America” and BBC in light of his pronounced expertise on legal matters. Citing these moments as highlights of his career, he has also been on PBS seminars. In 1978, he was appointed by the Chief Justice of the United States to be the reporter to the Federal Rules Advisory Commission, and was soon after re appointed in 1982. Additionally, Mr. Miller was notably appointed to be on the National Copyright Commission by the President of the United States.

Alongside his primary career responsibilities, Mr. Miller served the Research Foundation on Complex Litigations on their board of directors and the National Academy of Science on their advisory group of the Project on Computer Data Banks. A former director of the Project Computer-Assisted Institution for the American Association of Law Schools, he was also a delegate to the U.S.-Italian Conference with the International Judicial Assistance in 1961 and 1962.

Mr. Miller has been honored multiple times for his prestige in the legal industry. Named a Commander of the British Empire, he also received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
