Alongside his primary responsibilities, Mr. Blackwell excelled in his roles as president and chairman of the board of directors of the International School of Indiana in Indianapolis. Likewise, he was president and board member of Happy Hollow Children’s Camp in Indianapolis, the director and a former chairman of the board for the AAA baseball team, the Indianapolis Indians, and an executive council member of the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis. Notably, he spent time with the American Red Cross as chairman of the Indianapolis area, as well as served on the national board of governors and the executive committee for eight years. Additionally, he served as president of the Hoosier Salon Patrons Association in 1980.
Formerly serving with the U.S. Navy Air Corps between 1946 and 1948, Mr. Blackwell has been the recipient of numerous honors and accolades. He earned the C.J. Lynn Outstanding Red Cross Volunteer Award from the American Red Cross, was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Robert D. Orr of Indiana and was knighted by the French government. Selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law, Mr. Blackwell also earned the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
