Buckner, John 4123620_2270513 Newsletter

Supported by over four decades of excellence in the fields of marketing automation, e-commerce and finance, Dr. John Knowles Buckner is an applauded private investor who has recently invested in Pica9, Inc., and serves as a founding member of Music Meme, LLC, and Organic Soda Pops, LLC. Small but thriving in the industry, these investments can be followed at CampaignDrive.com, rockerteeshirts.com, and organicsodapops.com, respectively.

At the inception of his career in 1966, Dr. Buckner was employed by EG&G, Inc., as manager of the analysis department for four years before being taken on by Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates as director of electronic data processing, controller and vice president of financial operations. Departing from Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates in 1977, he was then hired by Waters Associates, Inc., as executive vice president and chief operating officer for the subsequent three years. From there, he served Prime Computer, Inc., as vice president and chief financial officer, EG&G, Inc., as senior vice president and chief financial officer, and the Control Data Corp. as vice chairman and chief financial officer. Dr. Buckner has also been active as the chairman of Bohdan Automation, Inc., and Pensco Pension Services, Inc.

Among the notable highlights of his career, Dr. Buckner is proudest of having led Control Data’s restructuring in the late 1980s, which culminated in the Initial Public Offering of Commercial Credit Company. The second largest IPO in history for its time, Commercial Credit ultimately became CitiGroup, Inc. Reflecting on these experiences, Dr. Buckner holds much gratitude for both his involvement in projects and for his mentors, including Robert Weinig, the chief financial officer of Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates, and Frank Zenie, the president of Waters Associates.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Buckner has accrued numerous accolades. Impressively, he was twice named a special fellow of nuclear science and engineering with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in 1959 and again from 1962 to 1965. Likewise, he was inducted into Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society, and the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
