A patentee in the field, Dr. Robert Gail Johanson – a renowned executive and engineer – has amassed more than 55 years in his profession. Serving as acting quality manager and senior applications engineer for Indicate Technologies, Inc., in Santa Clara, California, since 2008, he previously served Seagate Recording Media Operations in Milpitas, California, as a senior staff engineer and engineering manager between 1992 and 2000 and a consultant to Finisar Corporation from 2004 to 2007. Over the course of his career, he was employed by such companies as KMI Magnetics, Inc., Philips Lumileds Lighting Company, the Genoa Corporation, the Akashic Memories Corporation and Circuits Processing Apparatus, Inc., among other prestigious corporations. At the inception of his career in 1960, he was a chemist at Aerojet General Corporation for six years before serving Raychem Corporation as a staff member and group leader.

Noting that his entire carzer was an ultimate highlight, Dr. Johanson boasts an intense passion for chemistry and the sciences. Enjoying that there was always something unique to work with and discover, he recalls that there was never a dull moment. From the time he was in eighth grade, he knew he wanted to pursue a doctorate in chemistry. As such, the completion of a ChD at the University of Vermont in 1969 served as a crowning achievement.

Alongside his primary career responsibilities, Dr. Johanson was a consultant in Sunnyvale, California, from 1983 to 1984. He attributes his success to the mentality of “If you fall down, always get back up,” citing the motto as a modality by which he has lived his life. He also attributes his success to the support of his wife Joan, who was instrumental in many of his accomplishments in the field.

Married since 1964, Dr. Johanson is the proud father of five children: Robert, Martha, Douglas, Wendy and Christopher. He also has 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing and backpacking. In light of his exceptional undertakings, he was featured in the 21st edition of Who’s Who in the West in 1987.
