From an early age, Anna Martin has been engaged in musical endeavors. Influenced by her mother, who provided her with orchestral violin lessons, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education in 1966 and went on to serve as an orchestra director for Elkhart Community Schools in Indiana for the following decade. Known for its high quality choral and instrumental programs, the Elkhart Community Schools served as a turning point in Ms. Martin’s career, opening the door to further opportunities. From there, she served as a choral director at Rutherford County Schools in North Carolina and orchestra director in Charlottesville Public Schools in Virginia, before beginning her current role as orchestra director at Prince William County Schools in Manassas, Virginia, a position she has held since 1988.

Alongside her primary responsibilities, Ms. Martin served as an adjunct professor of music at several colleges, including Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Garner Webb College in Shelby, North Carolina. During her time in North Carolina, she was also the church music director at the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rutherfordton for one year. Likewise, she conducted for the Nova/Manassas Community Orchestra and Reston Chamber Orchestra in the early 1990s.

Among the notable highlights of her career, Ms. Martin is proudest of her involvement with the state department program that fostered exchange students. She was afforded the opportunity to travel with a chamber orchestra to Russia on three different occasions, as well as host a Russian group in the city of Manassas. As a testament to her success, Ms. Martin was featured in the 61st edition of Who’s Who in America in 2006. Born in Sturgis, Michigan, Ms. Martin currently resides in Largo, Florida. Happily married to her late husband James Summer Martin for many decades, she enjoys reading and sewing in her spare time.
