Luis Raul Rivero, MD, is a distinguished military officer and aerospace physician who has been serving as a surgeon at the U.S. Army Cadet Command in Fort Knox, KY, since 2016. At the inception of his career in 1995, he served as a general medical officer at the U.S. Army Health Clinic in Darmstadt, Germany, for two years while also acting as an emergency medical treatment physician at the 212th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in Bosnia and Herzegovina for one year. From 1997 to 2000, he was a general medical officer at the Rodriguez Army Health Clinic in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, having thereafter served as a battalion field surgeon at the 296th Brigade Support Battalion in Fort Lewis, WA, from 2000 to 2002. From there, he was a flight surgeon at the Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Clinic in Fort Huachuca, AZ, for one year before notably acting as a battalion flight surgeon with the 5th Battalion and 158th Regiment for Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003 to 2004.

During the latter half of his career, Dr. Rivero was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii from 2007 to 2011 and served as a deputy commander of clinical services at the Weed Army Commission Hospital in Fort Irwin, CA, from 2011 to 2013. Prior to attaining his current role, he was a surgeon at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida from 2013 to 2016. Certified in preventative and aerospace medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine in 2007, he has also been licensed to practice in Puerto Rico since 1995. Demonstrating versatility in his field, he contributed myriad scientific papers and articles to professional journals and authored “A Study of the 1993 Healthcare Reform in Puerto Rico.”

In light of his outstanding undertakings in the military and medicine, Dr. Rivero has accrued numerous accolades. From the U.S. Army, he received the Army Superior Unit Award, the NATO Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Armed Forces Service Medal. Further, he was the recipient of an Army Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star.
Likewise, he was honored with a Bronze Star with One Oak Leaf Cluster, a Joint Meritorious Service Medal and the Order of St. Michael Bronze Award.
