Desiring to delve into education due to her passion for teaching children, Constance A. Bivens, EdD, amassed 37 years of excellence in academia before her retirement in 1997. Notably serving as a teacher for Broward County Public Schools in Fort Lauderdale, FL, for 32 fruitful years, she previously taught in numerous other school districts throughout the United States prior to this tenure, including the Madison Consolidated Schools in Indiana, and Fort Knox Schools and Jefferson County Public Schools in Kentucky. She commenced her career at Broward County Public Schools in 1960, teaching for one year before embarking on her professional journey. Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Bivens was an education consultant from 1978 to 1980 and on the committee for the K-Adult Council of Nova Schools in Fort Lauderdale, FL, from 1976 to 1978. She continues to
serve her community of Madison, IN, as a woman of faith and member of the chancel and bell choirs for the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Impressively, Dr. Bivens was asked by the International Society of Delta Kappa Gamma to
represent the society at a meeting in Melbourne, Australia, which was held for teachers from across the globe. She is also renowned for raising funds for the Virginia Nelson and Constance Bivens Scholarship at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, which assists students who would have difficulty affording tuition. She wholeheartedly believes in the importance of continual educational progress; she notes that one should not stop learning simply because they hold a degree. This perspective has propelled her forward throughout the entirety of her career.

As a testament to her success, Dr. Bivens was the recipient of the Sarah B. Ferguson Achievement Award from Delta Kappa Gamma, the International Society for Key Women Educators, in 1991, which is the highest honor given to a Mu State member for their service to the Delta Kappa Gamma Mu State Organization. However, she recalls the highlights of her career were when she was able to serve children and help them feel significant.
