Harold A. McInnes commenced his career after earning a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1949. After obtaining his engineering degree, he served General Motors Corporation within the Delco Application Division for the following six years. Involved with Tracerlab Inc., the Reed Rolled Thread Die Company, and Dresser Industries Inc., soon thereafter, he began his tenure with AMP Inc., first serving the company as a manufacturing manager of packaging components beginning in 1966. Subsequently, he served the company as manager of the Automach Division, group director of general products, vice president of
manufacturing resources planning, and corporate vice president of engineering and technical resources. Serving as president between 1981 and 1986, he then acted as vice chairman of the board of directors and chairman and chief executive officer. Since 1993, he has served as chairman of the executive committee.
Alongside his primary appointments, Mr. McInnes sat on the board of directors of PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, PA, and was civically involved with the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts as well as with United Way. A member of the Electrical Manufacturers Club, he has been recognized a number of times for his achievements over the years. He was selected for inclusion in myriad editions of various Who’s Who publications. However, he cites the highlight of his career to be when he served as chief executive officer of AMP Inc. during the celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary in 1991. A national sales meeting was held and he had the opportunity to interface with individuals who helped build the company from the ground up.
