Specializing in cardiology, echocardiography, and electrophysiology, Arthur B. Hodess, MD, is a seasoned physician who has amassed 45 years of experience in the health care industry. Commencing his career at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, he served as an assistant instructor in the department of medicine from 1974 to 1979 while also serving the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine as an instructor of physiology in the department of animal biology from 1977 to 1978. After these appointments, he acted as a clinical associate in the department of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania for two years prior to his tenure at Brandywine Hospital. Hired by the hospital in 1979 as an attending cardiologist, Dr. Hodess also served as chair of the department of medicine for four years. Since 1989, he has been the director of critical care, and since 1990, he has been the chief of cardiology. Most recently, he has sat on the board of trustees since 2009.
During his tenure at Brandywine Hospital, Dr. Hodess served as the longtime president of Brandywine Valley Cardiology in Thorndale, PA, from 1991 to 2010. He has also contributed myriad articles to medical journals to share his wealth of knowledge with his colleagues. In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Hodess was elected a fellow of multiple organizations, including the Council on Clinical Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Angiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the American College of Chest Physicians.
To remain abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Hodess maintains affiliation with several more societies, such as the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. Impressively, he has also been a longtime member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Amid all of these achievements, however, Dr. Hodess is most proud of being afforded the opportunities to treat critically ill patients in the intensive care unit, nursing them back to full wellness.
