Ahmed, S. Basheer 3708678_3094019 Newsletter REVISED

Thanks to a robust education, S. Basheer Ahmed, PhD, was able explore his options as a professional before embarking on his chosen career path. He initially considered going into medicine, then physics, and eventually decided that becoming an economist was the best route of success for him. Dr. Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Arts from Osmania College in Kurnool, India, a Master of Arts from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India, and a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy from Texas A&M University. He began his career as an assistant professor at Tennessee Technological University from 1966 to 1968. Then, from 1968 to 1970, he served as an assistant professor at Ohio University. He then spent a decade as a full professor at Western Kentucky University. During this time, he also spent one year as a visiting fellow at Princeton University. After his professorship at Western Kentucky University, he was appointed president of Princeton Economics Group, Inc., from 1980 to 1999. He also joined the faculty at Pace University as a professor of management sciences in the Lubin School of Business and as the director of the doctoral program, positions he held from 1982 to 1992. After this, he earned the title of professor emeritus at Pace University. Today, Dr. Ahmed serves as the president of Pearce Consulting Services, LLC.

In addition to his primary positions in education, Dr. Ahmed has also served as a consultant for several organizations in the field, including the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Institute for Energy Analysis, and Honeywell International, Inc. Dr. Ahmed has also extended his expertise as a prolific author in the field. In 1974, he authored “Quantitative Methods for Business,” in 1979, he authored “Nuclear Fuel and Energy Policy,” and in 1984, he authored and edited “Technology, International Stability, and Growth.” Civically, he has done work with The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and the Rotary Club of Bowling Green, KY. In his spare time outside of work, Dr. Ahmed enjoys travel, health and fitness. Looking toward the future, he hopes to have a more active role in charitable efforts.
