Charles J. Egan Jr. became interested in the legal industry after serving in the United States Marine Corps when he was 22 years old. Involved in court martial cases during his time in the service, he was honorably discharged from the military as a first lieutenant in 1956. Soon after obtaining his law degree, he served the law firm Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine as an associate from 1959 to 1962. For the following six years, he was partner of Hall, McNicol, Marett & Hamilton, thereafter ascending the ranks to vice president and general counsel of Thomson & McKinnon Securities from 1969 to 1970. In the latter half of his career, Mr. Egan excelled as vice president and general counsel of Hallmark Cards Inc., serving the company from 1972 until his retirement from the industry in 2004. He specialized in general corporate law.

Alongside his primary appointments, Mr. Egan contributed his time and expertise to a number of nonprofit organizations and institutions. Since 1995, he has been a longtime trustee of the Kansas City Art Institute, a four-year college that provides bachelor’s degrees to students in the areas of art, design, and media. Likewise, he has sat on the Dean’s Council of Columbia Law School since 1991, having also formerly served the Harvard College Fund in such capacities as co-chair and vice chair between 1994 and 2003. In addition to these endeavors, he was a past trustee of the Pembroke-Country Day School, the Notre Dame de Sion Schools of Kansas City, and the Stanley H. Durwood Foundation.

Admitted to practice law in the states of New York and Missouri, Mr. Egan holds a Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Harvard University and a Bachelor of Laws from Columbia University. Married with four sons, he is a native of Cambridge, MA. He currently resides in Cave Creek, AZ, with his wife.
