Early on in his law career, Thomas H. Rice was primarily practicing aircraft accident litigation. When his wife was relocated to Spokane, WA, to establish the Federal Defender Program, Mr. Rice began commuting between Washington and California. He eventually took on a teaching position at a local law school and was then inspired to do pro bono work. He transitioned into starting an international human rights program at the school. This was the beginning of Mr. Rice’s fight for human rights on an international scale. With a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Furman University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the California Western School of Law, Mr. Rice is admitted to practice in the state of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Throughout his career, Mr. Rice has developed significant expertise in international anti-corruption law and international criminal law. He has traveled internationally as a Fulbright Scholar to the University of Montenegro, as a visiting professor at University of Central England (now Birmingham City University) School of Law in Birmingham, England, and as a legal education consultant with the USAID Serbia Rule of Law Project in Belgrade, Serbia. Mr. Rice now serves as a professor of practice at the Transnational Law Institute at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. In his spare time, Mr. Rice enjoys teaching, flying and photography.
