Interested in nursing and health care from a very young age, Brenda Lee Bowens, BSN, RN, is a noted nursing professional who values the diverse range of disciplines that exist within the nursing industry. Believing that technology has changed the profession for the better, she was motivated to further pursue nursing by her mentor, Joanne Miller, who encouraged her to never stop learning. First taking a first assistant course at Oakland Heritage Hospital in Taylor, MI, early on in her career, she commenced her career as a staff nurse in the operating room with Battle Creek Health Systems in 1974, holding the role for 13 years. Thereafter, she served as a staff nurse at CSU Borgess Medical Center from 1987 to 1992. Since then, she has been a registered nurse first assistant at Bronson Battle Creek and operating room nurse at Battle Creek Health Systems. Alongside her primary appointments, she served as a past clinical instructor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College from 1990 to 1991.
Specializing in orthopedics, robotics and general surgery, Ms. Bowens is a former member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American Nurses Association, and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses. She holds an Associate of Applied Science from Kellogg Community College and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan. Among the notable highlights of her career, she cites having the ability to raise three kids while attending college as a crowning achievement. She wholeheartedly believes that people can achieve the impossible if they have the right focus and discipline. Ms. Bowens is a shining example of that diligence.
