Professor Daniel S. Guy is a prominent lawyer and law educator whose expertise in the realm of civil procedure and environmental law is unparalleled. Serving as a longtime professor at the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law from 1965 to 1973 and again from 1977 until attaining emeritus status in 1998, he also served the college as dean from 1978 to 1984, interim dean from 1978 to 1980, associate professor from 1962 to 1965, and assistant professor from 1959 to 1962. Punctuating these roles, he was also a professor at the University of North Dakota School of Law from 1973 to 1977 and congressional fellow in Washington, DC, from 1961 to 1962. As such, he commenced his career in 1956 as a sole practitioner in Canton, OH, having thereafter served the state of Ohio as an assistant attorney general for one year.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Guy was a former staff director of the Crime Prevention Task Force for the North Dakota Criminal Justice Committee in the mid-1970s. Demonstrating versatility in his profession, he also contributed myriad articles to professional journals, having also authored the book “State Highway Condemnation Procedures” in 1970. A veteran of the United States Army Adjutant General’s Office, he was also accepted into the Lima Symphony Orchestra during his tenure.
As a testament to his success in both the military and education, Dr. Guy was the recipient of an Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In addition, he received an honorary doctorate from Ohio Northern University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, Doctor of Jurisprudence from Ohio Northern University, and Master of Laws and Doctor of Juridical Science from the University of Michigan.
