Always interested in music from a young age, Richard S. Older sang in church and in his school choir as a child. While attending Suffield Academy in Suffield, CT, he was involved in the glee club, where his director at the time told him to attend a summer music school in order to determine whether or not he was serious about the field. When looking for colleges, he auditioned for the summer school and Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. Mr. Older ultimately chose to attend Westminster Choir College, where he was able to sing under some of the greatest conductors in the world. In 1971, he obtained a Bachelor of Music Education and was hired as an eighth grade vocal and general music teacher at Columbia Junior High School in Berkeley Heights, NJ.

Mr. Older remained in the Berkeley Heights Public Schools for the remainder of his career. From 1981 to 1988, he taught at William Woodruff Elementary School and Mountain Park Elementary School. Today, he continues his work at Woodruff Elementary as well as Thomas P. Hughes Elementary School. As a qualified professional, Mr. Older is also a certified music teacher in the state of New Jersey. Throughout his accomplished career, he has been most proud to have the choir from William Woodruff Elementary sing and perform with the African Children’s Choir in New York City in 2002. In his spare time outside of work, he enjoys golfing and bowling.
