The son of a mechanic, Howard Shigeharu Mende became an engineer because of his father’s advice to pursue a successful career path. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Hawai’i and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Southern California. He also became a registered professional engineer in the state of California. Mr. Mende began his career in 1970 as a member of Technical Staff I at Rockwell International in Anaheim, CA, before moving on to the Los Angeles location and joining Technical Staff II. From 1977 to 1983, he served as a development engineer at AiRsch. Manufacturing Company in Torrance, CA. From 1984 to 1986, he returned to Rockwell International as a member of Technical Staff IV. In 1987, he served as a mechanical engineer at the government organization Defense Contract Management West before being promoted to his current position of electronics engineer in 1994.
In addition to his primary appointments as an engineer, Mr. Mende also briefly served as a lecturer at Pacific States University in Los Angeles, CA. For his accomplishments in his career, Marquis Who’s Who presented Mr. Mende with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Award in 2017. He was also named a Distinguished Humanitarian for his charitable efforts. In his spare time, Mr. Mende enjoys gardening and home improvements. A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he plans to finish out his career in the coming years and continue working for the government in the future.
