With an interest in engineering and mechanics, John O. Hallquist always wanted to make sure he had a stable future ahead of him. He attended Western Michigan University, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering. In 1972, he continued his education and earned a Master of Science in engineering mechanics from Michigan Technological University. Finally, in 1974 he completed his education with a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University.

After obtaining his doctoral degree, Dr. Hallquist went on to work in the weapons laboratory of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 1974 to 1987. That endeavor led to the founding of the Livermore Software Technology Corporation (LSTC) in Livermore, California. Today, Dr. Hallquist serves as the corporation’s president, specializing in large-scale software development for multiphysics applications. Additionally, throughout his accomplished career, Dr. Hallquist has also
developed several patents in his field.

Looking toward the future, Dr. Hallquist and his team plan to develop complete multi-physics capabilities within their current software, so that it may be used in all aspects of automotive vehicle design. Their ultimate goal is to create one type of software that can be used across the board.
