Born in Liestal, Switzerland, George H. Burgin, PhD became interested in aerospace after taking on his first position in the United States at Convair Astronautics. He was also inspired by his uncle who was an engineer who introduced electricity to his home village. In 1953, Dr. Burgin earned a diploma in engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. Then, in 1961, he received a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering also from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. In addition, he is a certified professional engineer in the state of California. Dr. Burgin began his career in 1962 as a design specialist at General Dynamics Corp. in San Diego, California. Throughout his career, Dr. Burgin has served in various engineering positions throughout California. Today, he has served as a senior staff scientist at Natural Selection, Inc. in La Jolla, California for 16 years.
Dr. Burgin has also offered his expertise in his field as a lecturer at San Diego State University, and he remains abreast of developments in his field throughout his lifetime affiliation with the IEEE. As an accomplished engineer, Dr. Burgin invented an air-to-air combat simulation program, which is capable of flying aircrafts very well. Because of his proven expertise in air-to-air combat simulation, Dr. Burgin has been asked to consult on the design, development, and testing of other aerospace tools and inventions. He also holds several patents in his field. In his spare time outside of work, Dr. Burgin enjoys rock polishing, jewelry making, and marathons.
