With more than 50 years of experience in the field of library science to her credit, Lucille Wilson Cameron, MLS, has been dean emerita of University Libraries at the University of Rhode Island since 1992. Between 1970 and 1992, Ms. Cameron served the University of Rhode Island in a variety of capacities, including as an assistant circulation librarian, reserve librarian, head of the Reference Unit, bibliographer, referencer, chair of public services, interim dean and dean. Prior to delving into the library science industry, Ms. Cameron was a caseworker with the Department of Public Assistance for the State of Rhode Island from 1964 to 1970.

The former president and member of the board of trustees of the North Scituate Public Library, Ms. Cameron sought out formal education in her youth, first earning a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Rhode Island in 1964. She followed this accomplishment with a Master of Library Science from the same university in 1972. Since that time, Ms. Cameron has been inspiring students and colleagues alike with her profound knowledge and expertise in the field.

In an effort to remain alert of changes within her field of expertise, Ms. Cameron maintains affiliations with several professional organizations, including the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and the Consortium of Rhode Island Academic and Research Libraries. In addition, she was chair of HELIN Library Consortium, Inc., governor of the University Press of New England, and a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Honor Society of Sociology.

The co-author of “Labor and Industrial Relations Journals and Serials,” published in 1989, Ms. Cameron has been married to James Robert Doris since 1976. Together, they share three children: Glenn, Gail and Valerie.

In recognition of her contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who’s Who community, Ms. Cameron has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who of American Women.
